Noise in cokpits(A320, B737,ATR72)
HI folks!
This post is for jet and turboprop pilots: What do you use in cruise phase to avoid the noise of engines?? Any special earplugs?? If so , How much is it, and where can I get it?? Any help would be appreciatte !! |
In the Jet i fly, we wear headsets for 90% of the time! Otherwise, its just on speaker and no other hearing protection worn!

I fly the ATR and most of us are using the BOSE X headset. It works better than anything I've ever used before and the mics are so clean and quiet we can leave the intercom open without static sound. They are around $950usd and worth a lot more if you fly a lot.

We fly around 80 hours per month! and all aircrafts has own headsets... In my opinion ,wear the headset during the whole flight is uncomfortable in jet aircrafts. Any other possibility???

In my company on the 737 we wore headsets all the time. Cockpit noise, especially with the recirc fans on, meant that taking them off made life difficult. On the Airbus however things are much more civilised. Cockpit noise less of an issue, so our SOPs allow headsets off in the cruise.

Does anyone know whether the ambient noise levels in, for example, an A320 in cruise are of sufficient magnitude to cause hearing damage over time?
I really need to get myself some earplugs for the walk around - walking near the Packs with the ACMs spinning + screaming and near the APU can't be good for your long term ability to hear. To answer your question, A320, top of climb we turn the speaker on, take our headset off until briefing for descent. |
Hi there
Go to a hearing specialist and get a set of earplugs moulded for you.:)Best investment you'll ever make.If you buy Bose, watch them like a hawk in case somebody decides to take a five-fingered discount:} regards TDD |
For the walkaround I just use my fingers. They are always (well almost)clean, available and they make agood seal so attenuation is very good. I also close the APU bleed (or even better turn it off) if I can.

I flew B737-200 and I had my Telex 750, they were perfect.
I sold them and replaced them with Telex 850 which is ANR for use in Dash8 Q300 Had you had a chance of noting the difference? Anybody please advice. |
