Most Number of Hours Ever?
Hi there, just wondering what the most number of flying hours ever accumulated by one person is? Is there a guiness book of records entry for such a thing?
The most Ive ever met is someone with 12000 hrs, seems a lot compared to what I have however there must surely be some 90 year old veterans somewhere in the world with perhaps 50000 hrs? Anyone know of such a character? Cheers. |
I have about 25,000 hours, but I'm only in the "little league", I knew and flew with some old-timers who went well beyond the 30,000 hour mark.
One old and dear departed friend, Captain Larry Blackman of TAA, had something like my total time on one aircraft only, the DC3. Of course, he flew other aircraft also. Regards, Old Smokey |
I recall being told that Captain Jason H had around 45,000 hours ... although the unkind would opine that he shouldn't have counted those accrued when he was asleep .... one Barry B recounted a tale when, as Jason's FO on a DC3 motoring over the Strait on one occasion, one motor decided to quit ... Jason evidently woke up ... observed that Barry had done the relevant things satisfactorily ... "carry on, lad" .. and retired once more to Noddy land ...

guess that just about settles it then! That story was from 1998, 8 years ago, so he could be up to maybe 80,000 hrs by now! fook me. Mind you hes also going to be 91 if he's still alive, so maybe he's finally hung up his headset. Anyone got any latest news on this guy, is he still alive/ flying around?

The chap who taught me to fly had just over 20,000hrs when he retired.
OK, that doesn't sound much against some of the numbers mentioned on this thread, but every one of his were on light aircraft ! |

Just coming up to 700.
Putting that into relation with figures of multiple thousands makes me speechless. At the rate I've built this, I would have to fly for 385 years to achieve 45000 hours... From this, I come to the conclusion that "it was much better in the old days". /LnS |

My total time (including UT) is 350,400 hours....you all seem so young these days.

Jesus H! 57000hrs?! I know someone with 22000 hrs & 22 engine failures. Still alive. Can't be a bad pilot. Makes it all look sooooo easy. Everything is as smooth as a baby's bum. :cool:

My entry would be Max Conrad, long flown west, but he had around 51,000 hours-all in light aircraft. In the Sixties, he was annually setting all kinds of long-distance records in various Piper planes.

David, (Flash) Phillips, ex RAF, Bcal and Connectair, retired with 30702 hours. He continued to fly non public transport flights post sixty five years.
