Flight International
 

I don't know which topic this comes under so please excuse me moderator if this thread is misplaced.
I would just like to know if anyone recieves this magazine (Flight international) and what it consists of. I am 15 but a very keen on becoming a pilot and love aviation. Is this a suitable magazine and is it worth its cash...being so young...I don't have much.

something like flying mag, AOPA would suit better your needs. I have flyingmag this year!(flyermag)
US magazine are cheap if you get a 1 year membership...and their english is easier to read(for non native english speakers)

Flight international is a good magazine but it is more geared towards the business side of Aviation in lots of way.

What magazine you choose is pretty much dependent on what you are interested in at this stage. If it is training, general aviation with a few articles geared towards professional pilot training etc then Flyer or Pilot magazine would be a better bet.

If I were you, I'd pop down to WHSmiths and have a nose through all of them (Flyer and Pilot are monthly, Flight International is weekly and comes out on a Thursday) and see what you get the most out of.

Personally im a fan of Airliner world. Just to add my 2 pence to this thread

I'd recommend using the Flight International website rather than buying the magazine. It is free, and provided you have regular access to the internet, it will give you all the info that would be in the weekly mag.

Reading about flying is a good idea, but what about learning to fly, you could take a glider pilot licence.

Flight exists within a large publishing company mainly dedicated to producing business-type magazines and they have journos writing to match (I know, I used to work for them so hello Algy if you are listening). Go for Flight if you are really interested in knowing what is going on within the industry, but after a while I feel you may get bored!

Flight may only help you when you come to have your first airline interview!

Read something that interests you, so if you are say a budding PPL, Pilot, FLYER and Today's Pilot. If you are more into historic stuff, FlyPast may tickle your fancy.

Buy a few copies but never subscribe until you are sure you'll make good use of the money.

Mo91, I started occasionally spending my low pocket money on FI when I was about 15, then getting it regularly when I was about 17. If you want a professional view of aviation from an employment perspective, with a view to working in the industry, then it will give you a hand on the pulse of aviation. I have not missed a copy since I was 20, and I am still working in the industry at 56! If you are more angled to private or general aviation, Pilot or Todays Pilot are the mags for you! Spend time at airfields and look into getting whatever flying you can, even gliding. But be careful, because when the bug bites.......

Aviation is an infectious bug. Once it bites, you are infected for life. Other jobs and industries just don't have 'it'. Don't ask me what 'it' is! I don't know.

I try an look at Flight International every week, don't buy it though.

It has a very good jobs section in the back pages, these are also covered on the net but I find it easier seeing them in print.

If you are a budding pilot then try the magazines that others have said such as Flyer and Todays Pilot.
It is also worth looking at Airways and Airliner World for informtaion and articles about the airlines and airports. There are articles from time to time about becoming a pilot etc. Airways in particular always has interesting columns from current commercial Pilots.

I read it regularly and have multiple subscriptions.
 

Generally good coverage on the commercial sectors and the price is a true bargain for the www version. Editorial staff leans towards not-too-subtle anti-US and pro Euro bias in recent years.

If you really want to know what is going on in an airline rather than hearing anything and everything about aerospace, thier sister publication - Airline Business - is very good indeed.

Flight is a little - well - over the top about everything that happens in the whole aerospace world to be honest, and costs more per issue for 3 years than the Economist. Yes, there are useful articles about what is going on in areas of regulation that affect pilots, but I simply don't care about every minutae of detail that they report.
