Noise cancelling headsets

Hi Amigos
Can anyone out there give me any recommendations on noise canx headsets.
I`m interested in replacing the standard company issue set which is very noisy in the 737 cockpit and it gets rather tiresome after a while.
Any info or advice would be gratefully received.
Regards
Room

Room, try the search "noise cancelling" and set the search option to 1 year, there have been a number of useful threads on this which should provide your answer.

My recommendation is the Bose-headsets... Their small, light and very comfortable to use. And the noise-reduction is great! but....thei cost a 1000 bucks:bored:

Roomparty, I too am in the market for an ANR headset, and fly the 737. I have borrowed and trialled two headsets from other colleagues. The Bose Aviation X, $995 and the Seinnheiser HMEC 25KA about $500.

In my opinion if you want the best then its the Bose. They are light, very comfortable to wear and a good fit. The problem for me as an FO in our airline is that we have to use elastic bands to hold the intercom switch on the pedestal on so that we can wear the headset on both ears and still hear each other as our 737s are not fitted with an intercom that can be left on "hot" all the time. Not all Captains are happy to permit this practice and the Bose is not very comfortable and quite aqward, to wear with one side not over your ear. But if you are the Capt. then you can inisist!

If its a problem for you then the Seinnheiser has the ability, due to having hinged earcups, to be worn to one side.

ANR is the business, obviously its important to protect your hearing but the difference in fatigue level is dramatic. You really won't believe the difference ANR makes its quite a shock the first time you switch it on them. I am still debating which ones to get, but for sure will be getting them from the US the price difference is huge.

I like the Telex Airman 850. It's light, requires no batteries, and you can cover both ears and still hear the other pilot. Only provides 12db of noise reduction, but cuts out most wind noise. Highly recommended.

I fly the 737NG and use the telex 850 anr. real nice to not have to hassle with those batteries. I am really happy with them

I use a Bose Aviation X in a B717. This aircraft doesn't have a hot mic capability for intercom between pilots, as mentioned above re the B737.

I don't use the ANC capability any more but find wearing it over just the left ear to allow me to hear the F/O is not a problem.

Excellent headset IMHO.

Hi,
I've just brought the Sennheiser HMEC 25 KAL, by mistake off ebay - they are great headsets and work great on the 737-800... BUT... the ANR takes power directly from a 28v DC supply from the aircraft - my company doesnt have this supply to the jack points. I just assumed they did, so the headsets work but the ANR does not.
What you need is the HMEC 25 KA (battery power as opposed to DC a/c power). Are you sure the ANR on the TELEX 850 works on the 737NG? or is it just my company 737 that doesnt have the DC power?

Capt Claret, SO why not just get an elastic band and loop it over the ADF tuning knob and then over the intercome PTT switch? Even the most senior pilots have been known to do that in our company, and the engineers don't seem to have a problem with it so I am presuming there is no problem doing it.
