B737 FAA Type ratings question

Our company has to pick up an N registered B737 in the states.
The Pilots have between 7000 and 9000 hours on the 737 and they have US ATPs. The problem is no type rating with the FAA only on their Australian ATPLs.

Is it still the case that the entire type rating must be completed in the US with no cost savings to the company?

Please any advice appreciated. :)

Le Pilot:

If your company is leasing the "N" registered aircraft, perhaps THIS regulation will answer your question. It describes the requirements to receive a "special purpose authorization" for foreign pilots to operate a US aircraft. If the aircraft is being exported from the US, it is a different matter. You might also find THIS information on the FAA website useful in preparing the needed documentation. To speak with a live person, THIS link will take you to the San Fransisco international field office website. There you will find telephone contact information. It appears that the SFO IFO is the office with responsibility for FAA matters in your area.

Good luck with your inquiry and please let me know what you find out.

Best regards,

Cross my palm with silver and I will happily collect the aeroplane for you! Mind you I only have something like 7000 hrs on the 737, but I do have the 737 on my FAA ATP and I am in Sydney for the forseeable......

Good luck anyway.
