Twa 800

It has been rumoured that an Alitalia flight operated by Australian pilots operated in near proximity to TWA 800. If anyone is able to confirm or deny this rumour, please email:

nick charles,

Your comment,

"It has been rumoured that an Alitalia flight operated by Australian pilots operated in near proximity to TWA 800. If anyone is able to confirm or deny this rumour, please email."

The aircraft is identified on the Boston Air Traffic Control communication tape as Eastwind Airline Flight 507.

This information was transmitted to TWA 800 at 20:28:13. "TWA 800 you have traffic at one o'clock and ah seven miles south bound a thousand feet above you (14,000') he's a Beech 1900.

Two minutes and two seconds later at 20:30:15 the center issues the following clearance, "TWA 800 climb and maintain one five thousand"!

Try the book "First Strike" by Cashill and Sanders.

Makes you think a bit.

If one can't accept factual investigation results, then it's whatever one wants to believe, theorize, or imagine.... NTSB

Correct. An Ansett (Nordstress) wet lease B767 300 ER took off two aircraft behind the TWA 800. The non Australian contract FO was eyeballing TWA 800, after it passed out of range of the TCAS, when the aircraft broke up.

He had nothing sensational to report other than the distress of witnessing an incident in which many people lost their lives.

Ok, let's do the math, TWA 800 nortbound at a likely TAS of 400 knots, Beech 1900 southbound at a likely TAS of 250 knots, which gives a closure rate of 650 knots, time to cover 7 miles equals 39 seconds. So, if center tells TWA 800 to climb and maintain 15,000 two minutes and two seconds later what, exactly, is the problem? Or should I say conspiracy?
