Simulator Question

Hello All,

Quick question from someone trying to build knowledge.

Once an airline pilot is flying for an airline if requested by him can he attend/observe other simulator exercises from other pilots even though he has his every six months? Is it permitted or encourage by the airlines?

Many Thanks

Well, AIRWAY, speaking for my lot, it is permitted but not encouraged. The reason for this is that we would not want a blanket prohibition in case attending/observing a colleague's sim session may do someone some good. Equally, we wouldn't want the inhibiting effect that "open house" might have on the crew doing their checks.
This way, if someone wanted to observe a sim session, he would have to have a good reason and get the agreement of the crew concerned.

One can always volunteer for stand in sessions where it has been difficult to roster one pilot, so you are essentially sitting there being either a Captain or co-pilot while the training is concentrated on the trainee. Far more useful.

In the interests of standardisation we used to use designated co-pilots in the simulator for command assessment and training.

Perhaps your company operates a similar system and you can get yourself on the list.

You'll find the experience invaluable

Good luck
