runway length
can a 737 / A319 land in an airfield with only a 1500m runway? just wondered thats all

A319 at Max Ldg Weight requires approx 860m to come to a stop from a point 50 ft above the runway.
Note:- Nil margins in this figure and using test pilot stopping technique! |
737's have been operating on 1250 meters for years on the Faeroe Islands - fully factored.

The joys of being a test pilot, you just don't care what the brake temps are other than to record them and brag you got 'em hotter than the last guys. As to the 737 Alaska Airlines took a -200 combi into Dutch Harbor in Alaska, 3900 ft long http://www.alaska.faa.gov/fai/images/AKPEN/DUT-a.jpg |
If a B747 can land at Longreach in Australia on a 1936 metre runway, I shouldn't imagine a B737 should have much trouble on 1500 metres. Goto:

I've flown as passenger in 737s into/out of Antwerp (1510m) and Horta in the Azores (1600m - airfield data states 'max aircraft size B757')
