I'm just trying to think which one would be louder on the flight deck, 747Focal.....the air noise on both at high speed is horrendous.

During the "high fly" at base training the Trident 1 was demonstrated at .96

It must hold the record for ROD. 300kts with 10,000 in reverse on 1 and 3 would give you 12000 fpm ROD! About 20 degrees nose down if I remember correctly.

Trident 2 was I believe capable of .89 at 27,000.

Designed with 'high-speed' clean wings was a little bit 'untidy' at lower speeds and required the use of the LE slats below 225kts.

I sorely miss the old 1-11's VC10 and Tridents! Great days indeed

Perhaps the B747SP - it's faster than the 744. 540kt max speed.

Probably tu 154 one of the best. Usually fly at .88- .9 but no problem at .93
Also rate of climb 30-40 m/s .Who can beat that?

The couriers, such as Fedex, like to run the B727 BECAUSE
it is fast. About 575mph., while the B707 is faster at about
630mph.,and the rest, like B747 and B737 are way down
on the list at about 545mph. and 525mph respectively.

Actually the speed record for a transatlantic flight of a commercial passenger airliner should be still held by a Swissair aircraft between JFK and ZRH at near or even just above (!) M1 with the help of a terrific jetstream! I will google the web to find out more info, but any one is welcomed into the search, might be some former SR crews can help.
