Flight Crew Per Aircraft

Hey everyone, just a quick question I have often wondered about. If an airline has for example, 50 aircraft (Let’s say A320’s), how many crews would there be if you worked it out on an aircraft to aircraft basis. I.e. if they had 50 aeroplanes, how many pilots would they need to keep 1 aircraft in service, 3 crews, 4 crews? Then for example, if it were 4, which would be 8 pilots, would this number just be multiplied by the number of aircraft?

Apologies if it’s worded a little strangely, struggling to find a better way to word it ha. Thanks all.

It varies a lot. Small regional operators probably have about 2-3 crews per aircraft. LOCOs probably 4.5-5 ish and long haul about 8-9/10 ish.

I seem to recall 24/7 charter companies running around 6-6.5.

In Turkey, the land of 5/1 roster with late arrival before your off and an early as hell the day efter off, less than 4 is normal.

Even though 30-40% of the fleets also continue to do night flights after the hectic daytime sectors.

Flight Crew Per Aircraft

The airline I worked for used 5 Crews per aeroplane during the main charter season.
This covered the aircraft working medium-haul 21 hours per day, 7 days a week.

We use around 5 on pure shorthaul operation (b737/A320), around 7,5 crews per MFF aircraft, MFF is done on A330/A320. A pure longhaul fleet would require between 10 and 12 crews per aircraft.

After the new EASA dream schedules are refined to extract the maximum from the poor suckers in the crew, the ratio of pilots to 'frame must reduce as the psycho CEOs and BigCorps push the envelope until it rips with tragic results?

The future's bright............................?
