How many Fokker F28's still flying ?
How many F28's (F28, F28-1000, F28-3000 and F28-4000) still flying around the World ?
Indonesia was a major user (probably around 80 or 90 of the 244 built) but now most if not all are parked up , there's 4 here at Halim , probably half a dozen at Soekarno Hatta and 4 at Pondok Cabe. I don't know of any still flying here other than 2 operated by the Indonesian Air Force
I'm looking at buying some complete aircraft to break up for parts and scrap but it seems the market has shrunk to almost nothing.
I spoke with one of the biggest buyers of the F28 this morning and he guesstimates 10 still operating which seems low.

A pity about the noisy engines , it's a solid design and good for the short strips in Indo , the same strips that 737-900s keep going off the end of ...

There are about 20 of them on the ramp about 500 yards from my office ... all ex Canadian Regional aircraft with no engines and being slowly stripped for parts by someone working out of a large hangar.
There was a small group that had hoped to put a program together to re-engine and upgrade the avionics on these airframes, then market them. That fizzled out about five to 10 years ago.
Rather a sad sight to see now.

mostly harmless
Myanma Airways were operating F28s last October (2011), certainly on the route Yangon (RGN) - Naypyidaw.
A friend of mine told me in early February that this was no longer the case. Is this indeed true?

Fokker F28s are staying on the ground
The Fokker F28 could barely stand any exposure to contamination on the wings, such as a slight amount of ice. A lot of people have died due to flaws in these aircraft, and fokker went bankrupt a long time ago. Leave these planes on the ground where they belong and try and find something else to play with. There is no one that would buy or fly in these airplanes that are as reliable in the air as chickens. Obviously the Indonesian Air Force is working with nickels and dimes. If someones plan is to cut them up for scrap then that should be done ASAP so no more ignorant people try to fix these things.

No US F28 mk100 to 4000 are always flying than in europe;
In Africa i know solely 5 aircarfts : one in Ivory coast private F28 ownes by a luxembourgese company VIp configucation, one in togo governemental like one in Ghana alos governemental, may be on in Kenya , I believ one in Tanzania governemental also, and some guys say still one in RSA.All the others are scraped or on ground (Gabon, Ivory Coast, Cameroun, Nigeria, Burkina, Mali, Gambia, Equatorial Guinea).
If somebody knows one MRO , we have to peform a C check on msn 11047.
Cheers and have a good Eve !!

I think Indopelita and Garuda Maintenance (Indonesia) still have MRO services for the F28 but Garuda would be the only FAA approved shop.
Fokker Services Asia in Singapore also.
There may also be some MROs in South Africa.
The 4 ex Gatari F28s were scrapped last month including a -3000 cargo.
