B757 Climb outs
Out of interest could anyone tell me what a typical initial climb out rate would be for a B757-200.
i.e. in feet per minute and angle of attack.
How would that compare to the theoretical maximum rate of climb for an empty B757 ?

I'm flying a 75 on friday so I'll have a look. Haven't ferried a 75 for a while so can't remember what they are like when they are light. did fly an empty 763 recently and the vsi was "off the clock" at over 6000fpm.

There is no alpha gauge on the Boeing so cant tell you. If there was and also to answer your other question it depends on aircraft mass and which de-rate you select.
An empty a/c at about 60,000kgs and full power and full climb power will go up at an attitude of about 25-30 degrees nose up and rater of climb well above 6000 feet per min.
A max weight (113000kgs)take off from Bahrain at 47 degrees C will be about 600 feet per min all the to cruise.
Every thing else will be somewhere in the middle, however it is an overpowered jet.
Great for pilots and pax but accountants say its a waste of power (money !).

Thanks all. I've always thought the 757 seemed quickest off the deck, but there again I have still to fly on quite a few types. I once had a trip to Gatwick on an empty Dan-air Comet and the Captain was obviously out to impress. This seemed to climb exceptionally well.

airsmiles, the following information is based on a 757 at a take off mass of 88,600Kgs (Max take off mass 113,699Kgs) The flight had a full load of pax (235) and fuel for a 2hr flight.
At about 500 feet with max allowable thrust reduction the PTCH (pitch) was around 18deg FPA (flight path angle) around 13deg VS (vertical speed) around 4800fpm.
At 7000ft 250kts and 88% Climb pwr PTCH 10.37deg, FPA 6.2deg, VS 3600fpm.
At 11000ft 309kts and 94% Clmb pwr ,PTCH 6.68deg, FPA 4.7deg, VS 3000fpm.
At 24000ft 309kts 94% Clb pwr PTCH 4.57deg, FPA 2.5deg, VS 1800fpm.
At 31000ft Mach.80 94% clb pwr PTCH 4.57deg, FPA 2.7deg, VS 2100fpm.
We climbed straight to 39000ft in 21 minutes.
