Issue of Airport ID in Italy

Can anyone tell me the procedure by which Italian authorities are checking for criminal records for non-Italian nationals applying for Airside pass.

Do you have to provide a police report from home country, or do they just check directly your record on computer if you are from another European country.
Anyone with recent experience of obtaining a pass, I would be grateful to hear.
Also anyone know if certain offences are acceptable depending on severity/time passed, as in other countries.
Thanks for any info.

So, all the info they need is available , via your passport No, from the computer in this brave new Euroland.
Does anyone know if any previous misdemeanours are acceptable or not.
Other countries vary, some accept certain things, some none, some pretty much anything after a certain time has passed.
