Best headset for Boeing aircraft?
Hi guys
Like most of you i use a telex 750, i just feel to change for something nicer ,i look at this new models.
1- pilot USA pa-2011GA
2- Plantronics new MS-200 ( my favorite so far)
3- Sony DR 6020
if you use one of those can do a review please.

A Captain offered to let me sample his Sennheiser Headset the other day. I was really sceptical of ANR headsets and how much they cost, but the difference was just unreal. He said they reduce fatigue hugely over a multi sector day. When I get online I will definiately get a set.

I work on the boeing 737 NG and use the telex 850 anr, with built in ANR, no batteries! power is taken from the microphone bias. i find them great. much smaller than the sennheiser and has some resemblance to the 750 in size /pt

Looked up a product review on that telex set and it sounds like the ideal headset for the 73. I use currently a sennheiser set without anr (company provided) but would like to add ANR. The Sennheiser still gives me a headache after a long day although its pretty light weight and the version with ANR cost way too much compared to other sets of its kind. So i just need to find a european pilot shop that offers the telex one

Well, I bought this fancy Sennheiser active noise reduction (ANR) headset to fly on our B735. After the first flight of the day I forgot to switch it off and the battery was depleted the next day.
New battery, same thing, forgot to turn it off.
So I continued to fly with the headset over one ear and no ANR which was fine.
My conclusion: Donīt bother getting a Sennheiser with ANR since both of you will need to have both ear covered. You will be in your own world and propably donīt hear the Hostie bringing you a coffee. At a certain flight level you probably take the headset off anyway.
However: In the beginning both my Co-Pilots and myself used the Sennheiser ANR and it was fantastic!You are in your own world.But for communication among each other you need to press that Intercom button all the time which I find annoying.

Thank you guys nice review on the Sennheiser, now you know why i like the pilot usa and plantronics they are single side and very light, price is 150 usd for the Plantronics new MS-200, now we need a pilot to review this model!

just another vote in favour of the Sennheiser headset.i have a set without ANR (ANR was VERY expensive)and it has served me just fine,in fact i've used colleagues' Telex and Avcomm sets and they have nothing on this! its not heavy or big at all and it has a flip up function so you can keep just one ear covered,good for monitoring a frq in the cruise.

OTOH, if you can't remember to turn it off, should you be flying airplanes? Add it to your checklist!

HMEC 25 BA ( Boeing Connectors + Battery Casing )
HMEC 25 BA1 (Boeing Connectors with a Mod + battery casing )
HMEC 25 BA1320 ( Airbus connector with a DC/DC convertor + battery casing )
HMEC 25 CAP ( Airbus connector with built in DC/DC Converter )
and some others.
All the above headsets has the NoiseGuard function.

ANR is absolutely fantastic. All this stuff about being in your own little world and not hearing the hostie/aircraft is in my opinion wrong. I have flown in Boeing and other aircraft with ANR and I really love it. You can still hear all the outside stuff you need to and it protects your ears. The problem with one ear off, or with no ANR, is that you need to turn the volume up (or not turn it down!) and it does affect your hearing after a while. Also, it does mean the low frequency fatuiging noise is still there, with ANR it is mostly gone.
The fiddling with the intercom switch is certainly a pain - its so nice on the 75/76 to have voice activated squelch and its hardly high technology. Not sure why they don't do it on other Boeings.

The Telex 850 sounds interesting especially since it doesn't require batteries. Does the hot mike have to be on for the ANR to work though?
Any Boeing or Dash drivers that use it out there?

The problem with the Telex 850 (and 750) though is that you can't move one ear piece "off your ear" like you can with the Sennheiser. I need a headset that has one ear covered, and the other not..!

I use the HMEC25CAP on the A320 which can get noisey near the ground, but you soon learn to like the ANR and your only worry is when using the Intercom which agreed is a bit of a pain -- when your mate starts slurping his tea !

Just my 2 peenies worth...I had a Sen HMEC45 ANR and it was v good but tried the BOSE Aviation X and found it far better...it is heavier but Im used to it. Its batteries last for weeks and weeks of day to day flying and if you forget to turn it off it turns itself off after 5 mins....
