737's landing lights.
G'day folks,
I had initially put this in the spectators balcony, but did not get much of a response.
Was wondering, why on some older versions of 737's the main landing lights flash on and off, but if you look head on, they alternate between the right and left. I think I have also noticed one with flashing lights on the back side of a flap, just to the right of the right hand engine, and just to the left of the left hand engine. Anybody have any idea why they do that? And what is the purpose?
Thanks

I am sure we've had this question before. From memory it's supposed to be a conspicuity thing and it's supposed to help reduce bird strikes. Apparently the birds are more likely to respond to flashing lights and fly away.
