FAA conversion to JAA

Being one of the many unfortunate people to need corrective lenses i'm somewhat apprehensive about my class 1 medical. (i'm very much borderline).

If I do fail at what stage of FAA training can i convert to get grandfather rights so i can skip the CAA initial?

I already hold a the FAA class 1. And would probably just go to the states ASAP after my class 1 (either way).

so... is comair a good scholl to try out or is naples a better option?

thanks in advance guys

There is never a stage at which you would be able to skip the initial class one for JAA licensing.

If you have any doubt - and it is MUCH harder than the FAA class one - then I suggest you take the JAA class one at your earliest opportunity.....and then decide what to do about flight training.

My thought was taht if you held an faa cply with class 1 on conversion all you had to do was the regular CAA exams and a JAA renewl. Might be wrong but CAA says +5/-8 on renewl

good luck

Have a look at a thread under the medical section on conversion.

It seems that there is a renewal route bypassing the initial CAA class 1 if you have faa cpl + faa class 1.

no, it is not. I just did my JAA 1st Class medical from a FAA 1st Class 3 months ago and besides the price difference (245 instead of 400 pounds) they still spent 45 minutes checking my eyes...
