4 Forces
I would like a definitive thumbs up or thumbs down for 4 Forces from anyone who has passed through.
I was thinking doing an ATPL DL there, as this is my nearest centre, but reports from other threads were not good (i.e. crap notes/question feedback). Any feedback (positive or negative) appreciated. Thanks DD |

Cannot comment on the centre i'm afraid, but do have the 4 Forces notes. My personal opinion is that the notes are not that bad. As you have stated, there are a lot of people that slate them. I will not deny that they have mistakes and are not at all brilliant in some areas, but are generally good in my opinion. The main problem, I have found, is that the level of detail is inconsistent with the JAA syllabus - too much detail in some areas, not enough in others. Ofcourse, if you are in groundschool, that is not as much of a problem!! All the best, Cuban_8 |
There is no reason why anyone should pay vast amounts of money for notes that 'have some mistakes', or 'are not brilliant in some areas'. I'm sorry Cuban but that does not make them 'generally good'!!
I have a full set of early Four Forces notes and they should have been shot for selling them! They have cost a lot of students heartache and added expense! I wish I had the technical know how to post a page of Cabair/Four Farces notes along side a page of Oxfords notes for the same topic. They are NIGHT and DAY! The exams are tough enough without crap notes. I believe things may now be better at 4F, but they deserve a good slagging for the way early students were treated. Problems early on seem largely to have been resolved.
I did the DL with 4Forces and passed all 14 exams first time. So they must be doing something right! Material was not as bad as some had led to believe, and I understand is subject to continuous improvement...well they were certainly working hard enough on it whilst I was there! All in all I would be happy to recommend them - but remember that ultimately it is YOU that does the work with DL: you can't blame the material for everything! :) Pilot Paul [This message has been edited by Pilot Paul (edited 07 July 2001).] |
Paul-in DL the material is EVERYTHING-your not supposed to be researching your way through to your ATPL.
Think about it-in DL the material is all you have(exept a couple of weeks of ground school. Was thinking about Bristol myself-has anyone got experience with them? :)DT :) |
I started my ATPL DL with 4Forces. It appears to be a professional setup. The notes i recieved were absolutely terrible. There were spelling mistakes on every page(Thats no joke...every page),the diagrams were black and white, and of extremely poor quality, text didn't match the diagrams, diagrams missing etc, etc. I spent more time informing them of errors, and asking for updates than i did studying. Final straw came when i spent 4 hours trying to work the calculations for gyro wander. You got it. They were all printed incorrectly when i checked.
To be fair when i complained i was given a full refund. I had lost all confidence with them, and couldn't carry on. I'm with Bristol now, and it is 100% better. The notes are clear, well presented and correct. There are good examples of formula breakdown for each subject, and the CD rom that you get contains full course notes, and mock exams and progress tests. I've got mine on my laptop and it's ideal to take to work to do some study, so your not having to lug all the binders around. The progress tests at 4 Forces were very infrequently required. Bristol want you to do a progress test at the end of each chapter. It's marked and back with you with full working out the next day. As it's been pointed out people have passed with 4 Forces, but having been able to work at both courses 4 Forces have some considerable way to go. |

I am also with Bristol and agree with the comments above.Notes very clear,examples broken down to explain them.I e-mail them the progress tests and they are back the same day,along with a worked answer sheet explaining how the answer was got. :) ------------------ GET THE BLOODY NOSE DOWN! |

Thanks to your reccomendation I have just been enquiring about Bristol.
I like the idea of the CD-ROM and e-mailed progress tests. They say ... "We would recommend at least 100 hours total time, a Class 1 medical and, in the UK, an IMC rating" Did you guys have an IMC ?? I don't !!! Also, where is a good place to stay 2 weeks revision? |
Class One medical is a must,before you start spending loads of cash.I don`t have an IMC as yet.

I spoke with Bristol about this before i started. it's just a recommendation. I have a PPL and 70 hours, and i seem to be getting on fine. Don't be mistaken though it's really hard work, and total commitment. make a plan. Stick to it. If you you say your going to do 3 hours in the evening, then you got to do 3 hours.
I was speaking to a pilot on Sunday who is about to do is IR. He reckons that he wouldn't have passed if it wasn't for the 2 week cramming course at Bristol. I'll have to see in January |
