Ex-pilot looking for work...

Hi...

I'm looking for work in aviation in the UK... and it need not be in airline or avservices, but preferably something aviation-related.

I'm intelligent, experienced, medically retired, aged 52, can't pass the pilot medical (one eye is just below standard) but in generally excellent health.

13,000 hours, held an ALTP, flew Islanders, Twotters, Dash-8s, held Secretary position of Association for 8 years, so have some admin experience.

Completed Programmer/Systems Analysis Diploma program, and am currently self-employed as a webmaster/web designer.

Desperately looking for useful work back in aviation, willing and able to relocate. Willing to take on Operations and/or admin functions, to start at the bottom again, and to learn whatever is required. Also interested in accident investigation and technical matters.

Able to work in the UK - no further documentation required. Willing to do telephone interview or attend in person.

So if you come across anything an experienced ex-pilot has the skills for - in or out of aviation - your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Skills:
Administration (Secty of LIALPA for 8 years)
Technical (Founded Assn Tech & Safety Committee)
Internet (Currently webmaster/web designer and computer consultant)
Text & Graphics (Created airline PLOGs, speed cards, airfield manuals, 16-page newsletter)
Office skills (Office suite, database software, list too long)
Travel (as a former airline pilot... are you kidding?)
Willing to start at the bottom, willing to learn, take courses.
Likeable, team and/or solo player, workaholic ready for creativity, authority, responsibility.
Much, much more.

Resume in text or Word 2.0 format available on request.

Thanks in advance...

Have transferred you here as not strictly NonAt issue. No insults meant!
Good luck

RVR800 21st May 2001 17:27

Had you thought of a career in the UK as a Sim instructor

JimLyn 21st May 2001 17:38

No insult taken, BOAC.

RVR800, I don't have any Instructor time at all, so I'm not sure I would qualify... what do employers usually look for in Sim instructors?

As far as I am aware I don't think you need
to be an FI in the JAA countries to be a sim
instructor

What you do need is

To have held an IR
Airline experiece is a big plus
You will have loads of street cred

Contact Oxford or BAe or Cabair for advice
There maybe a demand on airline sims as well
contact the CAA

These jobs can pay quite well !!

Good luck

Let us know how you get on

JimLyn 22nd May 2001 20:57

Thanks much... good encouragement - didn't know any of that.

I'll write some more letters!!!

Thanks again!

(ps: Keep them coming!!!)

Jim,

13000 hours in turboprops ? All that hand flying experience, all that instrument flying ?

Cabair, Oxford, Bae.. any of the big training schools need that experience for ab-initio sim instructing. Whether they have any openings is something you'll have to find out, but I imagine it would be a very rewarding job. The pay is pretty good too as RVR800 mentioned.

I doubt whether you would get a look-in at the larger airline-training outfits as they tend to hire experienced skippers/trainers on type who have lost/lapsed their licence etc.

The CPL schools, though, would be very interested, I'm sure, and you do not need an FI rating. The old 509 rules required you to be checked out and signed off by the CAA - not a problem for someone with your pedigree, but a quick call to the CAA should sort out the new (if any) JAR requirements.

If you would like to email me at [email protected] (this is my own email for prrune use and in no way related to the site), I can give you the name and address of the chief sim instructor at Cabair in Cranfield, nr. Milton Keynes. Very nice guy. If he can't give you a job, he might know someone who can. Admin and computer experience would be a great bonus there, believe me !

Regards

Jim,
I`ve just looked on Oxford`s Web site. They are advertising for Sim Instructors. They don`t say what qualifications you need though , just a name to contact.

El Desperado got his email pronto - with the promise of a thick steak (or veggie burger) upon successful completion of the pass - and I will look at the Oxford site asap.

Many thanks, guys - this site has given me more leads than a dog-walker at an International Pooch Convention.

But in the real world most leads end at invisible dogs, so PLEASE keep dropping me hints and lines if/when you find 'em.

Moochass GrassyAss, SeenYours... Arriba!! Andalay!! and all that good Speedy Gonzalez language...

In case anyone wonders idly if I am sitting on my hands waiting for someone to serve me with a silver spoon, I thought I would launch a pre-emptive strike by listing SOME of those I have already sent faxes or emails, all with resumes included.

Some of these were specifically recommended, the rest were gleaned from this Forum, Flight magazine and other sources.

The list is partially from email addresses (no time to look up the translations, I just put the partial domain name) so you would just have to take my word for such that it is a real destination.
