Never too old to fly!
For those wannabees who think 30 may be over the hill,I've just had the magic call from a certain regional airline to start flying the ATP later this month. I'm 40 and was definitley not the oldest to be taken on recently. Before you ask, I followed the self-improver route & MCC and have just over 300 hours.
If you want it badly enough, you'll get it! |
Thank for for sharing your great news! It is encouragement to all us older wannabees....
Well done and congrats! |
Im 30 and now a little disgruntled - having recently made the decision to get my atpl studying underway I would be interested in anyones experiences regarding age in the aviation industry - I didnt think my age would be a problem at all! Any advice welcome, thanks

Well done seadog.
I'm almost in the same position as you - except the job offer! Any tips you can pass, either here or email, would be very gratefully received. [email protected] You must feel fantastic Miles |
Congratulations Seadog! Another canine gets airborne :)

Reading this thread I'm not sure how likely it is for a mid 30's wannabee like me to be successfull in getting a job in the right seat.
I'm half way through PPL(A), which I will complete in the next couple of months. I may be able to continue to fund training to ATPL(Frozen) - is there any sense in doing this ? http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/confused.gif [This message has been edited by Pilch (edited 11 February 2001).] |
Im 35 and feel every inch of it after the last 14 months at Oxford! However here I am shiny new licence in hand looking for a job like everyone else.
You have to have a great deal of faith in your ability before you jump and realy want it, if your 30 and not sure or even 20 and not sure do some hard thinking first, its not easy! |
Batty - thanks.
I am very confident I have ben in and around aviation all my life and thus far have found the PPL training (thoery & practical) relatively easy. Dad and brother are both CPL(H) - will this help ? |
Congratulations Seadog!
It's great news for all of us wannabees not just you oldens! As seems to be the fashion on topics likes these, we'd love to here the details of your training, where, when and if it's not too rude of me to ask, how much? It's good to have facts to be able to plan a similar sort of training program. Info would be much appreciated! Well done and let us know how the jobs going in a little while. All the best!
