The first job subject!!!
I am an aspiring PPL and I read this forum every day with some confusion.
If I went to do my ATPL at OATS for example, when I come out it looks like, reading some of the posts that its either an Airline job or go do an instructor rating to hour build. Is this really the case??? Is there no inbetween that you can aim for???? I know it difficult but can you increase your chances of finding your first flying job by doing BLANK (fill the blank). I am not wanting to antagonise people but are people reducing their chances of getting their first job by setting their sights a bit high. We don't all want to be instructors do we?? If 50% of us became instructors, imagine the number of extra people we would want to read this forum as wannabes as students ..... the server wouldn't last 2 minutes and trying to hire an aircraft would be like going on Oblivion at Alton Towers! Approx 2 hour wait!!!!! Any thoughts???? Autofly |
I think getting the first job comes down to a big helping of luck.Your CV landing just at the right time etc.I think that in the time between finishing training and getting the first job you need to demonstrate to a prosective employer that you have been trying to keep current. So Instructing is an ideal way.

Delta,
Going down the Instructors route also has it's pitfalls.A friend of mine who i trained with was told last week in an interview, that he had too many instruction hours and that he was "un-trainable", so BEWARE. |
Hi,
How many instructional hours did he have? LP ps. Sounds typical of the airline industry.. how do you fill the gap between CAP509 and the x-hundred/thousand hour mark with the "right type" of hours |
I think what we need to do is pinch the wheels off the Goalposts then they wont be able to keep moving them......Anybody would think that they dont want us to fly!

Loony pilot,
About 1200hrs Instructing 400hrs multi. 200hrs single as you can imagine the guy is pi**ed off and thinking of chucking the lot and getting a 9 to 5. [This message has been edited by Tim01 (edited 15 May 2001).] [This message has been edited by Tim01 (edited 15 May 2001).] |
