loans for a 17 yr old???
hi
Can anyone tell me of any banks etc that do loans which i can get at the age of 17? im looking for around 5000-8000£ so i can do my ppl and maybe some hour building too. warm regards Dave |
Do you know how your going to pay the money back to the bank, think long and hard, it will be about 9 - 10K you pay back.
I got a Career Devleopment loan, max of 8K, an intrest free holiday, extendable but can't remeber how long for, and then about 10% interest. Clydesdale did mine (Very poor excuse for a bank) I think Barkleys and one other does it. I don't think a PPL would qualify as its 'Just for fun' I got mine after toward Groundschool and CPL (like its going to cover it, ha ha). |
I highly doutb you will be able to get a loan from anyone other then your parents at 17.

You will have to be 18 to enter into a loan/finance agreement...(consumer credit act and all that)
A CDL is a non-starter as it has to be towards vocational training. It's down to the folks by the look of it!! |
According to my Career Development Loan (CDL) literature you now have to be 19 yrs old.
All I can say is ask the folks. My folks (who are not rich, but are highly supportive) gave me about £4k last year. I've paid of about 80%. Try it. [This message has been edited by Superpilot (edited 14 May 2001).] |
Hi LH,
The sad but true answer is nope. I don't think any bank in their right mind would offer a loan large enough to cover a PPL to anyone under 18. Despite meeting the age requirement you are likely to need to be earning above a certain amount - not likely if you are a student. I managed to get my dad drunk enough to lend me the money which I still owe him :) If that is an option, why don't you try your luck. Call it an investment and say you'll buy him a yacht when you're a rich captain flying the sonic cruiser..... Failing that, beg and steal. :) :) SpeedBird22 :) :) |
Tried the grandparents? :)
Sorry but other than that I cant help you - over here the government gives us interest free loans till we start earning - Not to mention that 5 - 8000 pounds would see me a good way trough my CPL. Good luck anyway! |
Why don't we all chip in a couple of quid for the wannabee??
If everyone coughed up say, £3 I'm sure they'll be enough there to do a bit of flying. Then, why don't we call it a fiver each and split the total so that I can do the same thing?? I'll think of it as a bonus for thinking up the idea !! |
Try the RN or RAF. They'll cover the cost of training in exchange for 12 years of your life.
They'd be fun years too! Just a suggestion. |
I agree...You guys who are captains have the funds available to get young 'uns like me a start in the industry. You probably know what it's like to be grounded because of lack of funds. There is the odd scholarship to be had here and there, but if each of you put 1% of what you earn into a fund, you could give a lot of people the start they need. (I know this is hopeless - but just making a point) ;)
Regards, Mike |
Not necissarily YakYak... I got 20 hours off the RAF for, erm, about £0 :)
