Leeds Uni and the "Aviation Technology with...." Course
Hey everyone,
This is directed to a small audience if u will, to the now second year students on the Leeds University "Aviation Technology and Pilots study course " and the "Aviation Technology and Management course ". There is a section of maths that you have to undertake (I understand?) in one of the sections during the course, could you please tell me what level of maths this is, and what you think of the course? I'm mostly interested in the "With Management course", but info about both would be great. Thanks in advance! Ian |
Hi ya Ian :O
i'm sorry that no students have written anything to you yet. I am a student on the Aviation Tech and Pilot studies course. just to get this clear i do not represent the university in any way shape or form. Just a little back ground on me, i'm currently in the first year, as there is only one year of this course at the moment. i got on through clearing with average results. The course is run by the dept. of Engineering. therefore you are studying a BSc, when everyone else is studying for BEng. Your modules will be the same or similar for the first year, but as we will continue to study more ATPL related subjects, these do not come under the banner of "BENG" The maths is initially upto A-level standard. But like i said this is a Engineering dept. and so as the semesters and years progress more and more maths is required. I've attended other university's and i can say that the teaching here is excellent, so please don't be worried about failing any modules, as long as you work. However, there is one thing i feel i must highlight. If you want to get your fATPL go and get it!!!!!!! this is not a replacement for, or a cheat to get to fATPL quicker. Like i said the people on this course this year are students, they/we are here to get a BSc in a topic that we think is the bee's knee's. So far all the flying the students have done is 1.5 hours. We have a block of 23 hours coming soon. but what i am trying to say is, pleae don't turn up with your flying bag asking to book out ;) it will be a few months before your first flight. The management course only has 2 people on it at the moment, but the business school here is very good, and i hear really quite interesting. The flying school has been excellent and they are really trying to be like another dept. of the university, which i think they are managing quite honourably. a good bunch of lads and ladess'. just to say again, i am a student, i do not represent the university or the flying school in any way shape or form. ian if there are any questions please feel free to ask. Geez:cool: |
I too am interested in the course (pilot option), thought about the London Guildhall Uni Foundation degree too, this one covers the ATPL and PPL ground exams as part of the degree, as a 25 year old, should I do either of these degrees or just borrow money to go direct to flight school?

i think at 25 i would go for the ATPL straight away. only because if you spend 3 years getting a degree at leeds anyway, all you will end up with is a PPL and a BSc and be 28. if you spent those 3 years flying you could easily be at CPL/IR level and looking for a job.
I don't know much about London Guildhall university, but i still think you start flying asap. |
