oxford help please?
Can anyone tell me whether or not having oxford on my cv (done training there) would make it more likely to get a job quicker?
Its just they claim that it will but i dont know and it is also a lot more expensive than anywhere else. Warm regards Dave |
I'm probably in the same position as you, and wondering the same thing.....
I have looked into this and after talking to a couple of airlines, some say yes, some maybe and some say no. the majority say that if they have a stack load of c.v.s in front of them....everone has a frozen ATPL..so they need to look at other areas. and this is when "where you did your training" may come into play. but usualy they start to look at the person. so the place of training becomes irrelelvent.. you should definitly consider oxford for your ATPLs, But as a self improver, THINK HARD...I've heard nasty rumours of oxford putting self improvers on the low priority list, and only concentrating on their airline boys, when they get behined on their instrument training hours Hope this helps.... Mike............. |
As you may well know BA sends a majority of their Trainees to Oxford. And whilst I was at the BA assesments, the recruitment officer was telling us that if you cannot get onto the trainee scheme, you can still get into BA through Oxford, and join the BA trainees at the Jet Conversion stage. Becaue BA will see you have been through the same training as their trainees, and they don't have to pay for your training.
BTW |
BTW is correct, British Airways have taken 9 self-sponsored students after graduation in the past. These have all been fully-integrated course students!
|
I graduated from Oxford and had a job in 5 weeks, thanks to the fact that I had been to Oxford. Airlines often contact the school looking for pilots since they know the standard of graduates.
Put it this way, "We need x pilots for a course next week" "Oh **** 500 Cv's to look through, if I call Oxford they will send me suitable candidates" Dont think that doesnt happen, it did to me! Thank God!!!! |
I hope any of you can answer this but where on earth did you find the cash for the intergrated course. I've been down to OATS on several occasions to have a chat with them and I know that about 60% of the students are self sponsored. HOW????? Am I missing something here??
I'd love to go and train at OATS but ..... well you know the but. AF |
hi again
can anyone tell me what the price would be for the integrated course if i have my ppl and have done my ATPL ground exams?? i have heard it is quite cheaper than the 50k i have been quoted. ALSO i would like to back up the last message and also ask how people got the moola together to go to oxford? Thankyou so much. Dave |
Does anybody know if Ba takes people from OATS who have just gone there to do the commercial pilot training after doing there PPL and hour building elsewhere ??

1) Some people going through have V Rich Mums and Dads. (Not mine though!)
2) Others have huge bank loans secured on their parents homes. 3) I myself was 33 when I started and had just saved up for ever so that I could go through without any debts. 4) About 50% are fortunate enough to be sponsored, and I guess that is the best route! Even then some airlines ask you to put up some of the training costs yourself to show commitment. As far as a discount for PPL holders we had several on my course and yes they did have a price reduction due to having an hours reduction . However the discount was not much ,I guess since most of the costs are borne on the twins section of the course ( something like £6 a minute!) Liquid Hockey-If you already have your ATPL's and a PPL then the integrated route is not the one for you since it includes all the flying and all the ground school. I would suggest you want the integrated route to just do the CPL and IR tests approx 3-4 months weather depending! Finaly from what I understand BA are only looking at fully integrated 509ers at then moment, so unless you have done the full integrated course there I think not! Anyway BA ARE NOT the only airline in the world (though looking on Prune sometimes you would think they were)there are plenty of others that will look at you so why limit yourself!!
