CPL course,without ATPLS?
Just a brief question, I have passed 13 of the ATPL theo exams, and have a resit for the other one in february. Can anybody tell me if I can enrole in a CPL flying course, before I gain all 14 ATPL exams? and if so, has anybody had any good experience with UK schools in the winter? or is it worth waiting a while for the sun. Thanks.

As far as I'm aware, you can attempt the exams whenever you wish - but to commence an approved JAR CPL(A) Modular Course you need to have an ICAO PPL(A) with at least 150 hours flight time as pilot. But do bear in mind that you'll need to apply for the CPL(A) or IR(A) during the 36 months from the date of the final exam pass.......and that you must obtain an IR(A) during this period to keep your exam credit towards ATPL(A) - it'll remain valid for ATPL(A) issue for 7 years from the last validity date of the IR entered in your CPL - so be careful not to let your IR lapse for too long if the job market is still lean..........
UK summer - what's that...........?? |
On a modular course you must have passed all 14 exams to sit the CPL skills test. Although you can start a course before you have all the passes any responsible school will discourage you from doing too much of the 25 hour course until you have them under your belt.
Best of luck! (May I ask which you have yet to pass? I teach Gen Nav and Flight planning, and occasionally some P of F, M & B and Radio Nav). |
Quite right, Send Clowns. Sorry if I didn't make it clear but you must indeed have passed all theoretical training and examination requirements before attempting the Skill Test. So if one was to leave the exams until late, then one would no doubt be rather rusty come Skill Test time unless one had completed a pre-Skill Test brush-up session - or had flown rather more than the required qualifying hours.
There are undoubtedly quite a few FTOs who would be happy to meet your requirements, particularly if you've passed all your ATPL theory exams and have the required flight time to begin the modualr course. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! |
Thanks for the advice, SEND CLOWNS I failed P of F with 74% as did a friend of mine. We both asked for a remark, they gave him 76%., but not me, boo hoo!
