CPL skills test on a twin?
 

I found a couple of posts on this, but I was wondering what people thought about trying to combine a multi-engine rating with the CPL modular course?

I think it might be cheaper, but I am worried about trying to learn how to fly a twin at the same time as learning to fly like a professional :)

I seem to remember that you need 50 or maybe even 100 hours on twins to do the CPL/ATPL skills test on a twin engine aircraft.

If you are good enought you can do the CPL Skill Test after just 8 hours on twins but you do need 70 hours PIC on aeroplanes before doing so.

You need to do your IRT on a twin anyway. Since you won't get a job flying twins until after your IRT, why bother getting the twin rating any earlier? All that will happen is it will cost you more and then lapse. That's unless you've thought of something that I haven't.

Good points, just that I had seen some flight schools who only operated a twin as their 'complex' aircraft for the CPL flying.

I guess I will stick to singles..

Yep I plan on sticking to singles for the CPL for the reasons outlined above. Since most of us have the IR somewhere in the pipeline, where's the rush?

One question though...can twin hours accrued in other ICAO states (say NZ, Ozzie, or SA) be logged for your total twin hours back in the UK?

If you're planning on doing your IR less than a year after your CPL, then you won't need to do any revalidation flights prior to sitting your IR test. In which case you save yourself 3 hours flying plus MEP test by combining the CPL and MEP course. Not much between it really - whichever suits you best I suppose.
