FAA CPL/IR
 

I hold a CAA PPL with no ratings and would like to train for the FAA CPL/IR. I didn't know if you could train for the FAA CPL/IR on a "validated" FAA PPL or wether you have to do the PPL exam/test etc.

I have spoken to numerous people both in the U.K. and the States, but about 50% say you need to convert, 50% say you don't.

you do not need to convert. so long as you have the faa ppl issued on the basis of you foreign licence you do not need to bother sitting the faa ppl exams / test. The CPL will superceed the faa ppl issued on b of f licence, and will then become a stand alone faa licence.

There are many good ones in the US, I use Rainbow Air at Long Beach. Good bunch, good planes, good quality instruction and reasonable aircraft rates. Did my IR / ME there and am doing my CPL with them.

Naples in FLA are meant to be pretty good too.

How long does it take you to get the CPL/IR - are you doing the writtens in the US, or have you done them here?

I was thinking of doing my FAA IR. (Not CPL)
