FAA IR to JAA IR Question

Hello all,

Probably been done to death, but, can I now transfer FAA IR Hours towards a JAA IR? If so, is it the full 40 hours? Also, knowing the jist of the JAA IR, can someone tell me if there are any specifics regarding, e.g. twin, complex, type within the 55 hours?

Thanks,

LF

FAA to JAA IR

Long final

If you look on the CAA website the answer is there , but if your like me it takes ages to find

So heres what i understand, if you have a current IR, lets say Multi IR you need to speak to an FTO and get assessed as to your requirements, but the minimum is 15 hours, 170A and a test with a CAFU examiner.

So if your current and good 15 hours + exorberant costs to the aforementioned people.

If its mutli IR then the plane is complex anyhow, not sure about single , i have seen PA28's advertised for this but does not say if its complex type?

So minimum 15 but FTO's judgement on training requirements.

Think this is correct, anyone care to add

:D

carbonfibre,

Thanks, thats what I thought, but am still not too sure as it leaves it open to opinion via the FTO. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has put it into practice.

I did it about 8 weeks ago but can't comment on how successful it has been as the CAA still have not issued the licence! - but thats another story.

If you are a resonably competent single-pilot IFR driver then there should be no reason why you can't get up to speed and do the 170A test inside the 15 hours. Remember 10 hours can be on an FNPTII rather than the aircraft which substantially cuts down the cost.

Email me if you want a recommendation for a good FTO or any more info.

FAA IR

While we are on the subject, is it worth doing the FAA multi IR, then converting to the JAA like we have said if you are current and an FNPT2 at £175 an hour works out at about the same but you would have more hours

Care to expand on this and let me know which school you went to LF

Much appreciated

:)

Just did the conversion in pretty much 15 hours (got the FAA/IR in Summer 2000 and 15 hours was still enough, had literally just done the CPL in the same aircraft though which helped).

carbonfibre,

As yet I havn't done the IR. I have the FAA CPL and was thinking of doing the FAA IR single (25 hrs with IMC) then upgrading to Multi IR (one test), then converting the resultant FAA Multi IR to a JAA IR (min 15hrs). There appears to be quite a cost advantage, even doing the FAA training in the UK (using my single for the single IR element), also ending with an FAA CPL/IR.

My main questions are am I correct thinking this route is possible, and secondly has anyone gone the single to mutli IR FAA route and converted, and if so, what were thier opinions.

Localiser Green, did you do all your IR multi?

Thanks,
LF
