Self Improver Route

A mate has asked me what the current requirements are for a self improver route. I'm not sure what has/hasn't changed under JAR Ops. Is it still ppl, bcpl/cpl/atpl. If so is it still 1500 P1 for the ATPL and what hours count (ie instructing). Can anyone advise.

Well i know that CPL IR is 700 so 1500 sounds right quite a few multi would do the trick though.

I don't know thats only what i've heard...?

How come I've got a CPL/IR with 400 Hrs then?

Answer is that the old CAA CPL route needed 700 HRs - under JAR there's no BCPL and the hours required are a lot less!

Take the time to check out the CAA website and all will be revealed.

The new system is very much like the old "approved upgrade system", you can't build to 700 hours and do a shortened IR course anymore, you have to do the full approved abridged course:

PPL 45 hours
Hours building (100? Can't remember)
Written exams
CPL 25 hours
CPL/IR upgrade 55 hours

it gives you a lot less choice nowadays, which is both good - at least you don't have to ponder which route to take and thus add to your worries - and bad, damn it's pricey!!!
