CBIR and Logging IR hours
 

I'm looking to get my IR through the CBIR route soon and would like to hear from people that have gone down this route. Currently doing my ATPL exams and I have an IR(R) but not really used it in anger. I'm particularly interested in the part in between the IR(R) and the CBIR part where I can log IR hours towards it. What kind of flying have people been doing to log these hours and what would be the most beneficial way of doing this to prepare fully for the upgrade to CBIR while still abiding by the IR(R) privileges?

Practice flying IR test profiles. There are only so many of them. And don't try to think of it as an 'upgrade' (although it is!) - it's pretty much the same test you've already passed. You'll still need 10 (or is it 15?) hours with an instructor. Just get really good at holds, NPAs and ILSs. And know all your checklists intimately.

Thanks for that, my school has an IR instructor on board so i'll just start flying with him and doing test profiles of all types.

You'll have to look up the actual numbers but a certain amount can be done with a safety pilot (better for your PIC hours) so it doesn't all have to be with an instructor, although having one there could be more useful.
