PPL held - now which route to choose....
 

Hi all

Looking for some advice for my next steps to becoming a commercial pilot. So, I'm 18 years old, achieved my PPL at 16, and have built up 90 hours.
After a visit to Skyborne, I had been planning on going there (thanks to family) to complete the rest of my licences, but am now wavering (mainly due to the high costs) and thinking that modular via Aeros may be better given that I already have 90 hours.

​​​​​In the back of my mind all the time though is the relationships that Skyborne have with the airlines. Is that additional money worth it as they have a 99% tagging rate v. Modular where I could not land a job for a long time???

Have applied to BA and TUI schemes but sadly didn't make it.

As you have already got a PPL & some hours PLEASE continue down the modular route. Have you got your Class One medical yet? if not do it ASAP.

Don't fall for that 'we have relationships with airlines' spin, all the schools are at it but is meaningless sales BS. Only the demand from airlines wanting pilots drives anything, as I have said numerous times on this forum there no guaranteed jobs even if you are 'sponsored', come change in world events 9/11, Covid etc. market conditions changes overnight.

It is not worth the extra money (£30K up front I think) especially as a modular student you would be a second class citizen to the 'sponsored' students as they will get priority due to penalty clauses imposed by the airlines. This would apply to any FTO with a significant number of airline cadets. I have known EXCELLENT modular students take less time & even get jobs quicker (with the right market conditions) than those on airline schemes.
