Full A220 (BD-500) type rating course
 

hello fellows, interested in undergoing full A220 (BD 500) type rating course. Currently holding B737 rating. I understand there are two best option in Europe, Lufthansa Flight Training in Germany and Air Baltic Academy in Latvia. Please, share your experience with later employment options on large European carriers when completing these schools. Most importantly, what are the anticipated costs? Neither of the websites mentions at least a standard package. Greetings!

Paying for a rating is one thing if it’s associated with a sure fire job (distasteful as this is, it is the reality at some carriers it seems). Paying for a rather uncommon one like the 220 is madness.

Waste of money. There are what? 4 Airlines in EU operating the A220. 1 of them is Swiss.

The other is AirBaltic. Just apply there and see if they hire you, you will GET the TR, bonded, but you dont have to pay it out of your Pocket yourself.

Otherwise, you have to re assess if flying is something for you to continue. Not to be disrespectful, but to even consider paying for a useless TR is absolute madness.

The market is relatively good. Plenty of jobs. Also for not so experienced pilots.

I don't know how much it costs if you pay upfront but the bond in AirBaltic is 36K
I struggled to find another job, it was much better when AirBaltic was operating the B737 classic, it was much easier for the 737 pilots to move to another airline
What will help you is to convert your license to a UK one. Almost all my UK mates in AirBaltic now working in UK, cause of the UKCAA license and not cause of the A220 TR
