JAR air law exam
 
I am plodding through the air law study books from Bristol groundschool at the moment, and reading the Pooleys aviation law manual. Having completed nearly all the progress tests, both in the book and on the accompanying cd, I was wondering if it was really a case of question recognition or do you have to be prepared for anything you have covered in the syllabus?

I am starting on some past papers soon, but was wondering if there was anyone out there at the same stage, or just ahead, with any sound advice.

May I suggest that you try and get hold of Oxfords feedback questions for Air Law. If you know someone there then ask or it may be worth attending one of the modular courses to get the questions. It is really worth it. Their feedback question bank for Air Law is very good. Almost as good as thier Principles of Flight. But the exam is passable with the questions alone, however continue to revise, obviously!

Learn your seperation distances and all the iaco annexes. Thats about 10% of the exam (the one i sat). Then feedback is a great help with the rest. Although i agree the feedback can get you through for a nice exam, even the OAT feeback dosn't cover everything (and didn't in my exam).

I hated airlaw and to be honest would have quite happly failed the rest in that phase if i only passed that one.

Some people seem to find it a easy subject but struggle with the tech subjects and others the other way around. Although instruments was a bit of a bitch as well.

I found it a bit of a anticlimax getting them all because as soon as you have passed, the next challange soon focuses your attention.

Thank you MagCheck and MJ for those posts, I have a good collection of past papers for air law at the moment and am starting to work my way through them, in addition to re-reading the Bristol notes.

I am still wondering if there is anyone out there who has just taken the air law exam after completing the Bristol package: were the example questions similar to those in the exam? and did you complete a revision course at Bristol, or went straight into the exam?

Once again thanks for the help, hope it is all worth it in the end.

Bristol feedback questions (and their notes in general) have historically been the best in the business. However two pals of mine who sat the January sitting (both doing distance learning courses, one with Bristol and one with PPSC notes) were both badly caught out in the law exam, reckoned it was like nothing they'd ever seen.

I don't think it's an adverse reflection on any of the schools, as the CAA do periodically update these papers, and it does take time for the feedback to filter back to the classrooms. Be warned however that there's at least one 'rogue' paper doing the rounds at present.

Apparently there are some questions out there on IACO licensing requirements which isn't in the syllabus and are slightly different to JAR requirements.

Also some stuff on currency which is different depending if it says IACO or JAR.
