Type rating and revalidation of ME/IR

When taking a type rating for the first time, does it then count as a revalidation/renewal of the ME/IR as well ?

I am going to start TR this fall, and my ME/IR expires end September. It would be a waste of money and time to revalidate on a light twin, just to find out the TR course would be enough.

No. Your MEIR is limited to single pilot. The IR associated with your type rating is Multi pilot.
