I can vouch for that. Significantly more than 700 hours when I first started to fly multi crew and suffered from the single crew mentality.

Sorry but all this "airlines don't like single pilot time" is mostly rubbish. I know plenty of guys with lots of King Air, PC12 and Phenom time who transitioned to airlines no problem. I flew single pilot for 2500 hours before I got a multi crew job.

I'm not sure you should be reading it as it's a limiting factor (SP time), just that it may not be the preferred, or first choice of candidate, choice of airline type multi-crew operations. That's all.

Exactly. My point wasn't that SP time is bad, just that if you've got 200 hours, an extra 30 hours isn't going to help you land a job.

When you talk about 200h as a minimum or as a reference, are those as PIC or is it enough to have 100 dual and 100 PIC for example?

rudestuff 3rd February 2021 10:34

200 total (to include 100 PIC minimum) - basically the fewest hours you can have to hold a modular CPL

Aviator172s 3rd February 2021 11:25

Thanks. In your opinion, having let's say 250 or 300 in total, does not compensate cost-effort compared to potential gain when applying to a commercial job?

Climb150 3rd February 2021 14:53

Now doing an hour or two a month (if you can afford it) when you don't have a flying job is seen as a good thing. I would rather see 20 hours over the space of 12 months instead of 20 hours in two weeks.

It shows you are still committed to the industry and want to stay current. It's also great for meeting people if you do it through a club.
