Retaking ATPL exams after lapsed passes
 

Hello

I am currently waiting to start my CPL/IR training, but due to medical issues (ongoing appeal at CAA) I am really pushing it to get everything done in time (ATPL exams expire August 6th 2018).

I haven't given up hope yet and am trying my very best to get it sorted in time. If the worst were to happen however and I miss the deadline for getting both the CPL and IR finished in time, I'd be looking at resitting all 14 ATPL TK examinations.

If I do have to go down that road, will I be able to simply buy refreshed learning materials and pay (14*£69) to sit the exams again at an exam centre, or do I have to go through the whole process of registering with an ATO and taking weeks' worth of brush-up courses etc?

Any feedback on this point would be highly appreciated, I can't seem to find anything definitive in the Regulation!

What is the lis the time limit for the ATPL exams, it used to be 5 years, I think?

Have you thought of asking for an extension?

I was under the impression, that you can take the IR, CPL and PPL test without a medical, but need a medical for issue. May be worth checking. Of course if you go through all the CPL and IR training, you risk wasting your money if you never get your medical.

Do you wish to share the nature of your medical issue, but the time to resolve these medical issues can vary, and if we know what the issue is somebody might know of a way to speed things up.

'Remedial training' is required. For our students we would come up with a training plan together which could vary from online revision and then exams to attending accelerator weekends or brush ups in weaker subjects/all subjects. Depends on the exam history and the customer's preferences. If you aced them all first time I doubt you will need much remedial training. I should ask your ATO.

Anchorhold, I'm actually close to the end of the appeals process so should have a final answer soon enough. I have asked for an extension, but I've been told by several parties not to get my hopes up the CAA come through on that.

Alex, I'm guessing there is no chance I'd be exempt having to go through an ATO at all (i.e book myself in for exams again without involving my previous ATO)?

Is it possible for this 'remedial training' to be delivered by a different ATO, or would it need to be done by the same ATO that recommended me for the exams in the first place?

I completed the exams in 2015 having gone through the learning material and the brush-up courses with ProPilot (which became part of CTC shortly before I left, and which I understand is now L3...). Would Bristol GS be able to assess my exam performance (I averaged 93% with all first-time passes for reference) and act as my ATO the second time round for 'remedial training', for example? Or would this not be acceptable to the CAA?

You should be able to use a different ATO. People change all the time so it's not entirely a new procedure.

Whoever it is would just need your training records from the previous place. After that, it's up to the head of training.
