FAA Part 61 & Part 141

This is probably a really dumb question with an obvious answer but what is the difference between the FAA's Part 61 and Part 141 training?

Thanks in advance,

Simon

Basically the structure of the course. FAR 141 is an FAA approved syllabus, while FAR 61 you go and do what you like. Also the requirements are slightly lower for FAR 141.

But the end result is that you end up with a FAA IR? I am confused by this.

I haven't got the FARs in front of me but ultimately the end result is the same: FAA IR. With Part 61 you don't go and do what you like but you do undertake a less structured course of training which puts more emphasis on experience thus the requirements for cross-country time etc. Part 141 schools require formal ground school and 35 hrs instruction. (I may have got 61 & 141 mixed-up but the principal is correct)

Ok, thanks, think I'm clear on it now

Thanks for the replies,

Simon
