BGS progress tests
 

Are the BGS progress tests a good indication of what to expect on the actual JAA ATPL exam? Or are the questions on the actual exams much more in depth?

I think they're a fair indication, although the language used in them is far superior to some of that in the JAR question bank, some of which was poor in my recent experience.

I'd say on an intellectual level, yes, but on the interpretation of the word combination level, no.

Don't worry though, in the 2-week brush up, you'll get more than enough weaselily (sp.?) worded mock exam questions thrust in your direction to get yourself up to speed!

The fact is that I didn't plan to do the brushup course (I am exempt). Although I really don't mind spending a couple of weeks in the UK if it's worth it.

The progress tests at the end of each frame on the Bristol Ground School distance learning ATPL course.

It may well be worth your while to attend the brush-up if at all possible even though you are exempted. On the course you will receive enough practice papers till they're coming out of your ears, as already stated, of a very similar ilk to the actual final papers. They really do just push you that little bit further to ensure you are right upto speed for the exams.

You also receive the benefit of obtaining the latest feedback questions from the exams, invaluable in my opinion.

I would guess the brush up course probably boosted my scores by at least 10%-20%. Speaking to a couple of experienced RAF pilots who were there at the same time, they found it very useful too.

I guess it all boils down to just how confident you feel.

Might be an idea getting BGS to send you a selection of mock exams to look at to gauge your true standard.
