Gen Nav ATPL Exam in May
 

I sat the above exam recently and failed badly (mid 60%). Having done well on the other subjects I felt that this paper was harsh. Obviously I want to determine whether I misjudged the subject and how far 'off the plot' I was.

Did anybody else do this one in May and what did they think of it? If it went well what school did you study with and did you find the feedback accurate for this subject?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Mark, these are the GN results for Oxford students in the May ATPL. Every student who sat the exam is included – we have not carefully selected only the good ones.

I have omitted the students’ names, because they are entitled to their privacy, but I assure you that these are the correct marks of the 36 students concerned.

I have split them into 4 groups. Course 1 were all BA-sponsored, Course 2 was self-sponsored, Course 3 are all Khalifa-sponsored, and the last group are all previous failures re-sitting.

Course 1: 94,91,97,97,90,94,87,90,95,90,98,98,97,98,95,98

Course 2: 91,92,76,93,94,89,92

Course 3: 93,92,87,93,97,95

Re-sits: 70,78,62,69,74,78

Nobody at Oxford has reported that they found the May GN ATPL harsh. They all felt that the feedback had prepared them well for it – in fact nobody reported any new questions – they’d seen them all before, or something very similar.

other than.. why did anyone who had your final practice paper fail this exam?

And can we have the results of all the other subjects, in exactly the same format as above?

Before this thread moves onto a who's the best school I thought it apt to clarify the basis of my question.

Having failed Gen Nav I am looking at whether I badly misjudged the subject, missed relevant areas or generally messed it up - it is also possible that it was a bad paper. The answer to these questions helps me judge how to prepare for the resit. From any replies I can judge what further reading or revision to do - or maybe think about buying an additional set of notes/doing a crammer course.

I am pleased for the students at OATS - well done. I did my exams at Oxford and they seemed confident afterwards - however Met seemed to rattle them and I had finished it with a good pass mark with-in 1 hour.

The school at which I studied provided excellent support and teaching in all subjects, and I can not fault them in respect to my result in Gen Nav. Their preparation gave me a near 90% average in all other subjects.

I look forward to hearing from anybody that has sat this exam and their experiences.
