Wanted: David Hoy's Guide to Instrument Flying

Any ppruners out there with a surplus, second hand copy of this (out of stock) book, please let me know.

scroggs 26th May 2002 21:21

Of course no money will change hands for this, unless you propose to add to the Pprune Fund (which exists to help Wannabes). You do understand that advertising is banned on this site, don't you?

aces low 27th May 2002 09:04

I only thought outgoing advertising was banned (i.e. items for sale). Seems a pity that ppune has got so anal that it is becoming less helpful....blah blah blah commercial enterprise, got to keep our advertisers happy, if you did it then every one else would ...

I wouldn't bother if I were you Aces Low, I tried to buy it 12 months ago and had the same problem. People I know who have got it say it is not that useful or up to date. Your FTO should be able to furnish you with all the necessary information if you are doing an IR.

scroggs 27th May 2002 19:46

Any advertising is banned, whether commercial or classified. The reason is simply that if it were allowed, it would swamp this forum. Imagine trying to find that essential info about your ATPL or FTO in amongst all the ''BGS notes for sale'' ads. Not only that, but each ad would have to be scrutinised to ensure that commercial companies aren't trying to rip Pprune off by advertising for free, and that copyright material wasn't being sold illegally - such as the BGS notes above!

There is a forum set aside for classified advertising, but it isn't live yet. I believe that there is some argument about how we recover a reasonable charge for advertising from users of this facility - and which of us has the time to administer it!

In the meantime - no ads!

I have a copy of it, and frankly wouldn't bother. If you really want it, you can have it for a donation to PPRUNE funds - sort out with Scroggs how to do that.

But you'll be disappointed.

I did the FAA IR, and found some books frankly a waste of money, some "not a lot of good", and some very helpful. It depends on you and how you use a book!

aces low 28th May 2002 18:49

Thanks for the offer Keef. I will take your word that it is not as useful as has been suggested, and wait for the IR FTO to fill me in. Save Scroggs getting shirty. Thanks again

Try your local public library. I saw one there, told a fellow PPruner who wanted a copy and he promptly took it out and 'lost' it.

STATLER 28th May 2002 19:13

But i will share it with you LOST

Keef 28th May 2002 19:17

If you want it, you're very welcome.

G-LOST 28th May 2002 19:21

I've nicked Kev's. In my view it's a good read. Simple enough, sets out the test criteria etc and doesn't over-complicate things too much. Far too many detailed theories out there in other manuals, just waiting to cook the brain. KISS.

STATLER 28th May 2002 19:46

Its good for the test criteria, if you can get a copy of it read it, gets rid of some of the miths. KISS

Wee Weasley Welshman 28th May 2002 23:57

It WAS a good book. Its now a bit outdated to be honest. In its time it was an outstanding guide to the test written by someone with expert insight.

Its still worth buying but others rival it.

Wannabes cannot be allowed to deteriorate into a Sales and Wanted exchange. Hence we stamp on these kinds of threads. Its not out of malice, merely keeping the front page thread topics at an interesting level.

People offering good kit free to a good home for example have traditionally been allowed to 'advertise' here alongside people offering swaps.

Cheers,

WWW

ps I started it all off a couple of years ago swapping some PPSC notes with someone else who had some ATA notes so a phrase incorporating Kettle, Black and Pot springs to mind ;)
