about the ATPL-JAR exam

I’d like to have some opinions about my upcoming ATPL-JAR exam.
After I completed the three months training, all the students were called to meet every evening in order to practice sample questions with the supervision of the director of the training facility.
In this occasion he was showing us questions taken from a database, with 500-800 questions for each subject. We were allowed to use tape recorders and take notes.
Later on, we solved other questions, which were not from the same database, but from a word document, where the correct answer was given, following each question. It seemed like a pre prepared exam. In this occasion, we weren't allowed to record or take notes.
What does that mean? Is this the way things are usually done to prepare students for the exam? Did anyone have the same experience as I did?

my opinion

It means that the last set of questions might be the ones you'll find at the exam. However, I can't understand why the director wouldn't give you students the CDrom database with the official questions.

Uh?

Weird story mate. What school was it? Can you pass on the questions to the rest of us? If there were 500 - 800 questions on the database (possibly feedback?) then I wanna see!

*jumps up and down flapping hands*

Would not suprise me if some FTO's had access to actual JAR questions. "Old boys" network and all that. ;)
D'oh, said it now!

*Runs for cover*

VFE.
