Best ATPL Ground School??
 

Hi there!

I am currently trying to decide which is the best full time ATPL ground school course. I have contacted all of them and cannot decide which one to go for.

Coventry looks really good though LGU are so much cheaper! While OAT (who never anwer their phone) and Cabair are in the higher finance brackets they have great reputations. Maybe I should just use the the shut eyes and pin point trick (JOKE!!!)

I am a new user to this site and I would greatly appreciate any advice, thanxs

I understand from your question that you're looking for full-time recommendations and I'm afraid I can't help you there but I have passed 14/14 with Bristol going the distance learning route as have a number of others (Gazeem, The Greaser etc etc). So if you do change your mind Bristol is worth a look.

PS At exam sittings there were tales of woe from LGU students.

I'm at OATS at present doing phase 2 ground school, and regardless of what anybody says subsequently regarding OATS marketing/ aircraft availability etc, I can say that the ground instructors are superb!

I am aware before anybody says it that I cant compare them to anybody else as I havent been taught anywhere else, I'm just telling you how I see it.

Even when you consider that the ground school at OATS is perhaps a couple of thousand over everyone else I still believe I am getting value for money.

Good luck in your choice, you can do worse than choose OATS

Suggest a search through past threads a wannabes – this topic has been discussed infinitum (sp.?)

I had a good friend go to cabair and he certainly did not recommend it. All i,ve heard is good news about OAT & ATA (Oxford having the best feedback, ATA having some fantastic staff) so its probably a choice between the two.

Cant say i've heard anything about LGH.

I second Bristol Ground school. Their notes are excellent, the two weeks crammer course was great. All the instructors there are very experienced.

PS: Alex, how long before you offer full time/residential course?

cliff i'm at coventry at the moment, and whilst i also don't have anything to compare them against, i would feel more than happy to fully recommend them - great atmosphere, people, teaching and course structure

however, everyone above praising their own individual experiences just goes to show that i think you should base your final decision amongst the A-list more on what your budget allows and geographical location - it's six months out of your life and you need to enjoy it as well

I also agree that Bristol is excellent - but I'd never suggest that you do distance learning if you have the time and money to do it full-time. It can be very difficult to keep the rate of progress up... I'm doing ok so far, but only after a conscious effort to get back on track after taking a couple of days off once or twice. If full-time is an option, don't even look at Bristol.

I've also heard good things about OATS, but no first-hand experience - except that out of all the schools I contacted for information, they were the slowest getting information to me - but not so slow that I'd be worried. (In any case, this is more of an issue for distance learning - probably not a issue for full-time, since you'll be in daily contact with instructors anyway.)
