Who can we trust
 

Flight Schools.... Academy's..colleges are closing down either because of the economical problems or management problems.

So who can we trust.....If I go state side for my training can I be sure it will be finished and be good honest training :suspect:

So many friends say fly in the states and so many say when you factor in this and that just fly here in Ireland its the same! I can see their point in that if fly in perfect weather then try fly in Windy wet ireland you may have a problem...snd if the cost is pretty close sure why move.

Is there any schools now that you can walk in and just pay to fly till you get your PPL/CPL/ATPL etc.??

Some packages include the whole lot....flights...exams..fees... accommodation etc..

Weston Airport is where I am at present and im pretty happy there but at some stage I will go state side to continue my training.

So, I'm new :confused: Help :ooh:

Air Service Training is owned by Perth College, part of Highlands and Islands University.

I am not aware of any UK universities going bust......although I stand to be corrected!

This must provide some security in our market.

Most of people in aviation teacher are way too much commercial
 

I am one of x students from London met where i finished my ground school from there and i find most of the teaching was bonking around. However its closed now and i wasted 9 months of my life for this University.

All i can suggest please becareful where you going and whom you paying.

Er, no! Look at London Met! There is a long saga in the charter world of companies that buy over other companies completely misunderstanding the market and mucking it up, and I'm sure there have been or will be many companies in the training world in the same position.

In answer to the question, it's more often not actually a matter of trust, but circumstances, and they can happen to anyone. All you can do is treat it like any other major purchase - exercise proper caution, visit the schools concerned, ask some of their students how they like it, etc. In other words, do your research. You'd be surprised how many people in your position do not. You, at least, are considering the US, which is more than many people do, believe me.

The big tip is always be prepared to move on, as schools can generally accept each others' training. Don't do anything that ties you to them, like paying it all up front. Get used to it - that's aviation! :)

I have sent a few emails off to see if schools will accept pay by flight

EFT is one such school...list seems pretty good but again need to research them :ugh:

I have a list made up of a few schools and complete pricing...............Im not sure if I can post here but I can email it to anyone who is looking at U.S Schools....Its only my choice of schools from web search and I don't yet know the performance of each school :sad:

I've decided to sit my PPL Exams before I do my training no matter if it's in Ireland or the States.....Least then I can just fly and read up for any Flight Test Questions :ok:

BCFT still seem to be going from strength to strength, offering full residential ATPL groundschool and the full works. Always as pay as you go.

I appreciate NOTHING is guarenteed; my previous posts have always suggested people pay as they go as the only GUARENTEE of not losing money.

I am not aware of any UK university going bust up until now.....and as with the NHS I am sure the government will continue to offer support to such establishments.

By comparison, private companies who set up with the goal of making a profit, taking customers money up front, are UNLIKELY to be supported when it all goes wrong.

The recent history (I have not been involved long enough to comment further back) is of people being mis-sold a dream. Tell a story, take the money, .....

The facts are:-
There are far cheaper options than integrated courses.
You do not need to pay money up front.
Those who choose not to go integrated are getting jobs.
No-one can GUARENTEE a job in advance of someone starting their training.

I have some experience of dealing with people who have lost a lot of money paid in advance for flight training. There is SOMETHING which encourages people to part with their money way too easily.......but I don't know why. I am sure it will continue.
