Good ATPL books
Hi,
I am just wondering if anyone out there can recommend good ATPL books that I can study for the interview and exams. I have one that is called "ACE the technical pilot interview by gary bristow" This is a good book but does not go into much details. I just want to make sure that I understand the concept of vortex generator correctly. So, vortex generator is a protruding surface that energizes the airflow which delays the airflow separation and also delays the stall at a lower speed. In other word, the VG mixes less energetic air with more energetic air and helps with the MTOW and climb performance? Cheers |
Be very careful with the answers in the ACE book - there are a number of VERY basic errors (such as the lift formula). It is a good guide for the type of questions though.

Thanks for the advice. If I remember correctly, the lift formula is 1/2*AirDensity*CoeffientOfLift*V^2*Surface of the wing?
|
Yes you do remember correctly.

What about this one "Test Prep 2012 Series - Airline Transport Pilot"? Is this book decent enough to prepare for the selection process?

ACE and Handling the big Jets, Davies
I've bought the ACE book too and been told its one of the best, but as above, be aware of the incorrect answers.
Another book I have been recommended by a ex airline Captain and head of training is Handling the Big Jets, a very old book but the principles for the airlines are spot on (so I have been told). Happy reading. |
