Zero flight time
 

Just a short question that ye might be able to help me with,

I have just reciently been shown the delights of piloting and am considering it as a career. I would like to know if airlines require you to have built up a number of hours to get sponsorship. I have not got any hours to my name yet but will have very soon.

Hi,

There is no one answer to that question but its fairly true to say that pretty much the only sponsorship in the UK that they prefer you to have zero flight time is British Airways. Even then though they will still consider you up to aroun 80hrs TT.

The majority of others like all the Cabair schemes, GAPAN and others require a PPL and a class one medical.

I could go on for pages about all the different schemes but try searching the archives and you'll come up with enough info to last you till next Christmas.

Aer Lingus are not running a sponsership this year due to financial difficulites i believe. Its important to remember though that sponserships are very difficult to get thousands of applicants applying for only a hand full of positions. So if you dont get in dont give up. There are many routes to becomming a pilot sponsership just happends to be the cheapest heh.
