Mircrolight hours,

Hi there,

Just a quick question,
Can the microlight licence hours (25hrs) be used towards a PPL in GA. I understand it may not be the full amount.

On behalf of a friend.

If the Microlight hours are 'flex wing', then none are allowable towards a JAR-FCL PPL(A).

If the Microlight hours are '3-axis', then the only hours which are allowable towards a JAR-FCL PPL(A) are 10% of the PIC time, up to a maximum of 10 hours. Which means that if you have 10 hrs PIC on 3-axis Microlights, only 1 hour may be counted towards the JAR-FCL PPL(A).

From LASORS2010:

Holders of pilot licences or equivalent privileges for
helicopters (including UK QSP(H) with no previous
SEP aeroplane experience), microlights having
fixed wings and moveable aerodynamic control
surfaces acting in all three dimensions, gliders,
self-sustaining gliders or self launching sailplanes
or gyroplanes, may be credited with 10% of their
total flight time as Pilot-in-Command in such aircraft
up to a maximum of 10 hours towards a JAR-FCL
PPL(A).
For the NPPL, see http://www.nationalprivatepilotslice...20REV%2009.pdf - the allowances are far more generous.
