Flyer Show - Heathrow
Has anyone been to the Flyer Professional Pilot Show at Heathrow today?
Unfortunately, every time it comes around I seem to be working. Anything new or interesting there, that's worth looking into? Thanks for any posts. |
I also could not make it but would be interested to hear about the talks from
Flybe and in particular Loganair:ok: Thanks in Advance |
Same old same old:
"We are expanding, we will be hiring, TRAIN! TRAIN! TRAIN NOW!!!. Oh and here's my friend John who runs a flight school at xxxxx. See you around" :ugh: |
SuperPilot
Was at LHR all day yesterday and pretty sure I didn't hear Loganair say anything like that at all. Were you at a different exhibition or just in the bar all day!!??? |
I was there. Lots of Flight Schools saying now is the time to train as there will be a pilot shortage in 18 months. I questioned some of them about this, you know there's already many unemployed pilots, lots of RAF pilots looking for new jobs etc. Some shuffling of feet, apparently it's all down to luck whether you get a job or not after your £100k investment (I was told this in all seriousness by one of the FTO reps).
One FTO was advertising £10k off if you booked a course within the next 7 days. You'd have ot be bonkers to sign up on a whim like that but no doubt some people will do so. It reminded me very much of a timeshare sales pitch. I think the most useful people I spoke to were FlyBE, GAPAN and BALPA. All of whom were enthusiastic about the career but sensible regarding prospects. BALPA were giving out a very good booklet urging people not to get suckered into paying for type ratings and pay to fly. All very good advice. The BALPA man said "You're right to approach this with some cynicism". I was intrigued by a stand caled "BA Flight Training" but it wasn't manned whilst I was there and I was unable to stay long enough for the BA seminar at the end of the day so would be interested in what that was about. As far as I know BA don't do any training but I wondered if they were there to scout out one or two promising individuals?? It was certainly worth going, and has definately helped me to decide that modular or not at all is the only sensible route for me, in my circumstances. Integrated may well be right for others though. |
The BA Flight Training Stand was next to ours and I asked Darran the show organiser about it who stated that they were "a no show"
It was to be a stand about sim sessions at Heathrow we believe |
I was there. Lots of Flight Schools saying now is the time to train as there will be a pilot shortage in 18 months yeah, shortage of idiots willing to ruin their own life in this mega aviation scam!:} |
BA Flight Training has been at previous shows. All they do (at least as far as their attendance at the show) is sell spare time on BA's simulators at Cranebank to the public.
