Bristol Ground School & Bed & Breakfast
Hi,
BGS have very kindly provided me with a list of local accommodation, but before I book B&B whilst I'm doing the brush up course it would be nice to get some recommendations from those who have stayed in some of these places!!! Any takers? Nish. |
Have done both a met and tech brush up at bristol and found them excellent. On both occasions I stayed with a wonderful lady, Mary Sproat. A lovely quiet farmhouse about half an hours drive from the airport. Mary's cooking is superb with a gormet dinner most evenings. Help yourself brekkie. It really is a home from home. Mary has such a good reputation she gets booked well in advance but the house is always full of other like minded people, both on ground school and flying so there should be some one to help when you are sctaching your head over Alex's homework!

Mary's house is the place to be - a little further than other places but well worth it and probably the cheapest for what you get.
Description above is oh so true. I had a brilliant time there - just watch out for the fireworks ..... :) |
Orchard House in a place called Chew Stoke, is about a five minute drive from the airport and is excellent.

Churchill Court was the best and friendliest B&B that I have ever stayed at. The Murray family will make you feel very comfortable indeed, and the old manor house setting takes some beating. About 20mins from the airport, and they only take in Bristol students, so you're not likely to be the only one there. In fact, I believe that the master himself (Alex), lived there whilst he set up Bristol Groundschool.

I stayed at Terry Burton's house, it was excellent. (He had an Au Pair!)
It was £15 per night, but he also offered a packed lunch at £2 per day and an evening meal at £4 per day. All in for £21 per day. I reckon you'll be pushed to beat that. |
Gotta be Mary's gaff! Stayed there during the Nav crammer and it's just the ticket. You generally get back there at 6.30-7ish and as Jude says, there is invariably a great meal waiting for you. 3 hours of study then down to the pub for last orders before getting back to maybe another hour in the books before bedtime. Great routine which worked for me :)

Jane Bainton lives in Backwell, less than 10 minutes from the airport. She works shifts, and you get a room (possibly en suite) plus use of her kitchen, living room etc, for £70-£75 per week. I stayed there for a month doing the nav course, then a week for the brush-up course for the techs. Depends on what you want of course, but it does mean you can eat what and when you want, and do your own thing. And Backwell is full of takeaways if you don't actually want to cook. Pubs are close, and the leisure centre with swimming pool less than 5 minutes walk.
