Question Regarding ATPL

Hello there,

I was just wondering at what stage of flight training do most pilots start studying/attempt the Canadian ATPL exams. I have reviewed transport Canada's page discussing the requirements but I am still unclear on the whole thing. If someone could shed light on the basics of who needs it? what is it? when do I get it? where/how can I complete it? I would greatly appreciate it.

Presumably once they finish the CPL. For the ATPL you require a heavy type on the licence and they are about to go heavily multi-crew on their theory exams. Not much point until you have the basics.
