Do you need a JAA CPL/IR to start your MCC?

I am currently doing my flight training in the US, and realized that there are CAA approved MCC courses being run out here in the states. I thought maybe i could get it done out here cheaper and have less to do when i get back to the UK

Does anyone know if it is possible to start the MCC training with a FAA PPL/IR or do you need the full JAA CPL/IR? Also wondering if a US MCC is frowned apon by european airlines, any ideas?

My wife did her MCC before she completed her CPL, although she had already completed the IR - so it's certainly possible to be done :ok:

Most MCC providers require you to sign to say you have completed your IR. I should check with the FTO

You need an IR but not a CPL - a PPL will do.

To be frank, without my copy of LASORS I can't remember if it has to be a JAA IR of if the the FAA pretendy-wee-almost-as-good-as-an-IMC-rating one will do!
