instrument rating

hi everbody,
i am trying to decide on what type of instrument rating i should do.
1. 35hour single engine ir and then 15 hour twin engine ir
or
2. 35 hour in a sim and then 15 hours in a twin
the hours in the sim would help because if i find something difficult to understand, it can be stopped and everything can be explained in detail which wouldnt happen in an aircraft. also less delays with weather.
however i find the sim not very realistic especially for take off and landing.
the hours are only logged as sim whereas in the aircraft they could be logged as actual ifr time .
i would like to hear your comments ,good or bad, let them roll.
cheers macflea

Assuming you are doing the MEP class rating aswell then I would probably only do a maximum of 30 hours in the sim. You can learn all the procedures reasonably well in that period of time. You'll need ALL the remaining time though, probably more, to get up to speed and learn to fly the aircraft. I did the MEIR course before I had my cpl which meant I had to do the 55 hour course. Basically I did 30 hours FNPT2 time, then the 6 hours for the MEP rating and the remaining 20 hours were IR training in the seneca. It worked well for me doing it that way.

hey everyone
Just wondered, i'm about to do my IR before doing my CPL, do you think its a good decision to make? would it be difficult? and what does the syllabus contain, and what do you basically have to do? and also lastly some opinions and experiences would be a very good help...

Last of all.. Thanks Everyone :ok:

Sounds like it is not a simulator, then. More likely it is a flight navigation and procedures trainer (FNPT) or similar which is NOT designed to teach you fly. In other words, it does exactly what it says on the tin.
